What’s the Tea? Vol. 4: Moving Through Anger

How are we feeling? This past week, I’ve been moving through some feelings of anger and irritation. When I recognize these emotions, it’s absolutely VITAL for me to address them in the moment. If I don’t, they’ll most certainly build and erupt either though my words or through unpleasant physical symptoms (heartburn, indigestion, the usual suspects!).

When I’m feeling angry/frustrated/irritated, I know it’s usually because I’m not feeling seen or heard in some way. The way I work through these emotions varies depending on my energy—sometimes I can whip out my journal and write up a storm. Other times, I need to dance it out.

One thing I always do in these moments is drink some tea with motherwort in it.

Scientific Name: Leonurus cardiaca

Flavor Profile and Energetics: bitter, cooling

Physical Properties: As you can tell by the scientific name, motherwort is known to help the cardiac system, especially in promoting blood circulation. Motherwort is also known as a nervine, so it can help reduce rapid heartbeats brought on my anxiety.

Emotional Properties: Leonurus cardiaca translates to “lion-hearted,” and motherwort is sometimes called “lion’s tail.” In Healing Herbs for Women, Deb Soule says “We need courage to heal the various ways we have been wounded and have not been allowed to be the powerful, intelligent, wise [people] that we are. Motherwort gives us courage to be our true selves and to develop a strong heart, like the lion’s heart.

Rose | Lemon Balm | Linden | Motherwort

Motherwort appears in my Heart Chakra Blend. While I adore motherwort, it’s quite bitter on its own, so it needs some aromatic herbs to balance that out. Rose embodies self-love; lemon balm and linden are gentle, calming herbs. Together, they’re quite magical.

Testimonial

The heart blend did acutely reduce my blood pressure 4-5 points. It’s relaxing, and it makes good hot or iced tea.”— My Dad, a.k.a Head of R&D <3
